The subforums are like that bu default in phpBB3.
You need to activate them in admin panel > display > structure & hierarchy > Sub-level links on index > with pics

You don't have to choose any pic. Just choose the option and save.

Pleas note that we only help you with coding and not with admin panel. If you have difficulties with admin panel please ask on Forumotion support forum.
